Specialist youth housing service Program [FAQs][ What To Do | Share Houses | Independent Units | Same House Different Landlord ] We are a medium to long term, supported accommodation service for young people aged between 16 and 22 years, parents 16 - 25 who are needing support and unable to live at home. Young people accommodated at BABI must have links to the Wynnum/Manly/Redlands area -- however we will assist any young people requiring information or support on housing issues. If you need accommodation or would like to refer someone to SYHS, you can: § Call BABI and ask to speak to a Housing Support Worker or
§ Drop
into the BABI office and make
a time to meet with a worker from the SYHS team.
If you need assistance or you wish to refer someone, it is important
that contact is made with the BABI
Office to confirm the nature of housing assistance required.
SYHS is a founding program
of BABI and
is a joint initiative of the Commonwealth & State Governments,
administered in
The program also receives significant assistance from the Queensland Department of Housing
and Brisbane City Council Grants. The Program is also kindly
assisted by donations from the local community.
We have 2 fully furnished share houses that can accommodate up to 3 people at a time. A caretaker lives in a granny flat or near the main area, and
oversees the running of the houses.
One of these share houses is a student house -- this means that
tenants must be engaged in education to live here.
There are 8 fully furnished one-bedroom units to accommodate young
people aged between 17-21 years.
A caretaker lives in one of these units, and oversees the running of
the complex.
Same House Different Landlord/lessor ▲
These houses are provided by Department of Housing. We lease these
properties to couples and young parents for 6 months. After this time,
tenants remain in the house but are signed over to Department of Housing.
These properties usually have no fittings or furniture.
SYHS is not the same as a real estate agency. Young people that live
in our accommodation are encouraged to work towards their goals with the
assistance of a housing support worker. Conditions of stay differ between
houses.
§ Put
