The BABI Youth Support Coordinator Program is aimed at providing support to young people and their families who are at risk of not successfully transitioning or completing their senior phase of learning.

The Youth Support Coordinator works with young people in Years 4 – 12, or TAFE equivalent. We work with young people who are having problems at
home, school or with other young people. We help young people to come up with ways to overcome issues or to deal with problems in life.

This initiative is funded by both the Department of Education and the Department of Communities, which administers the program. The program is responsive to reforms being introduced through Education Queensland.

Youth Support Coordinators provide a service to schools throughout the
Redland and Bayside districts, including a number of the islands.

As society has evolved, so have the needs and demands placed on our young people. The Youth Support program aims at identifying the current trends and needs that young people face in our communities.

Youth Support Coordinators also aim to provide a service that is flexible and effective, responsive to the specific needs of young people.

The most important thing is that Youth Support Coordinators are committed to their work -- with the young people with whom they have contact!

What Services Do Youth Support Coordinators Offer?

Face-to-face support, and counselling;

Help with school issues;

Referrals to other agencies that may be able to provide specific support;

Projects to improve opportunities for young people in schools and in the local community;

Mediation;

Group work;

Information sharing

How Do I Access a Youth Support Coordinator in My Area?

§ You can contact the Youth Support Coordinator on the number provided or through your school’s support staff. Appointments can be made at the local Youth Support Coordinator Office or at school;

§ Youth Support Coordinators treat the personal information you provide with respect and confidentiality. The focus is on meeting individual needs, assisting youth to realise and achieve their goals.
